King Kong ain't got shit on me!
In a surprise turn of events, all-round badass Bill Paxton is set to play one of the bad-cop leads in CBS’ drama pilot Training Day.
The series is a ‘modern reimagining’ of the 2001 feature of the same name, directed by Antoine Fuqua. The film starred Denzel Washington as a rogue detective and Ethan Hawke as his rookie partner. The film earned two Oscar nominations for its stars, with a win for Washington as Lead Actor.
The CBS series is to be set 15 years after the events of the film. “A young, idealistic African-American police officer, Kyle Craig, is appointed to an elite squad of the LAPD where he is partnered with seasoned, morally ambiguous detective Frank Rourke (Paxton)”
Immediately, the questions begin to arise. Was ‘Training Day 2’ ever considered? Did the original cast pass on the opportunity? Well, it seems that might have indeed been the case; Hollywood Reporter learned “Early incarnations of the pilot script had the corrupt older cop as Jake Hoyt, the character Hawke played in the movie, or Hoyt as a Deputy Chief. The show moved away from both versions after Hawke opted not to be involved in the reboot.”
Hopefully this can be a move towards retribution for Paxton, havin recently starred in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
