Deadline broke news this morning that Bill Block’s Billblock Media has closed a two-year, first-look production contract with Warner Bros. Pictures, "who will now handle global distribution for all of the company’s titles".
The first film to be released within the contract is Sam Raimi’s (Spider-Man, The Evil Dead) 'World War 3', based on the predictions in George Friedman’s novel 'The Next 100 Years'.
Deadline also reports that "As part of the deal, Block (who is the former CEO of QED), has also closed what is said to be a multi-million dollar private development fund to acquire and develop projects with global distribution potential for packaging. This comes after the executive just recently partnered with Red Granite on a multi-year agreement where Red Granite will serve as the exclusive international sales agent for his films."
Some of Block's more recent credits can be attributed to last month's 'Dirty Grandpa' and upcoming STX comedy 'Bad Moms' starring Mila Kunis and Christina Applegate. However, Block has also overseen production on David Ayer’s Fury, Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 and Elysium.
What do you guys think? Like their track record? Excited for a World War 3 Sam Raimi film? We are.
